Xiqing General Aviation Airport

Xiqing General Aviation Airport in Danzhou serves the kind of crowd that moves fast — charter passengers, business travelers, and aviation enthusiasts passing through Hainan's northwest coast. The terminal is compact and unpretentious, which means the dining options follow suit. Don't expect a sprawling food court, but do expect something far more rewarding: a handful of stalls and a small café area where the food is genuinely local, made by people who actually live here and eat this way every day.

The standout thing to seek out is anything featuring Danzhou's beloved wenchang chicken — even this far from its Wenchang origins, Hainan-style poached chicken with ginger-scallion oil turns up reliably and is almost always worth ordering. You'll also find coconut-based dishes and snacks that reflect Hainan's tropical pantry, including fresh coconut milk drinks and sticky rice wrapped in banana leaf. The small noodle counter near the main waiting area does a respectable version of lao po bing — the flaky, sesame-crusted pastry that locals treat as both breakfast and afternoon snack.

Given the airport's general aviation status, the atmosphere at mealtime is refreshingly unhurried. Staff tend to know regulars by name, and the pace feels more like a neighborhood canteen than an airport concession. If you have time before your departure, resist the vending machines and pull up a stool at the noodle counter. Order whatever the person next to you is having — that instinct will serve you beautifully here, as it does across all of Hainan's less-touristed corners.
