The Airbus A330-900neo is the larger of two variants in the A330neo (New Engine Option) family, incorporating Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, new composite winglets called Sharklets, and cabin improvements derived from the A350 XWB programme. It entered service in late 2018 with TAP Air Portugal and offers airlines a significant reduction in fuel burn compared with the preceding A330-300. The aircraft retains the proven A330 airframe while delivering approximately 14% lower fuel consumption per seat compared with its predecessor, making it attractive for medium to long-haul operations. Its range of around 13,334 km allows non-stop service across intercontinental routes. With a typical three-class configuration seating around 287 passengers, the A330-900neo competes primarily with the Boeing 787-9. Its lower acquisition cost relative to the 787 and commonality with existing A330 fleets have helped it attract orders from a diverse range of carriers worldwide.
