The Embraer EMB 120 Brasilia is a twin-turboprop regional airliner developed by Brazilian manufacturer Embraer. It was designed to serve short-haul regional routes and became one of the most successful regional turboprops of its era, competing with aircraft such as the ATR 42 and de Havilland Dash 8.
The Brasilia entered service in the mid-1980s and was widely adopted by regional carriers across the Americas, Europe, and beyond. Its pressurized cabin, relatively high cruise speed, and efficient Pratt & Whitney Canada PW118 engines made it attractive for connecting smaller communities to major hubs.
Although production has ended, many examples remain in service with regional and cargo operators worldwide. The aircraft established Embraer's reputation in the commercial aviation market and helped pave the way for the later ERJ and E-Jet families.
Notable operators
Major operators have included SkyWest Airlines, Continental Express, Atlantic Southeast Airlines, and Comair, among others.
