Aeroper

Aeroperú, officially known as Empresa de Transportes Aéreos del Perú, was the flag carrier of Peru from its founding in 1973 until its suspension of operations in 1999. The airline was established as a state-owned enterprise and grew to operate an extensive network of both domestic Peruvian routes and international destinations across South America, North America, and Europe. The airline faced significant financial difficulties throughout the 1990s, compounded by the tragic crash of Aeroperú Flight 603 in October 1996, in which a Boeing 757 plunged into the Pacific Ocean shortly after takeoff from Lima, killing all 70 people on board. The disaster severely damaged the airline's reputation and finances. Aeroperú ceased all operations in March 1999 after failing to recover financially and restructure its debts. The airline's collapse left a significant gap in Peruvian aviation that was subsequently filled by other carriers. It has not resumed operations since.
