Tuninter

Tuninter was a Tunisian regional airline that operated as a subsidiary of Tunisair, the national carrier of Tunisia. It was established to serve domestic routes within Tunisia as well as short-haul international destinations, primarily to neighboring countries in North Africa and the Mediterranean region. The airline gained international attention following the crash of Tuninter Flight 1153 on August 6, 2005, when an ATR 72 ditched into the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Sicily after running out of fuel. The accident, which killed 16 of the 39 people on board, was attributed to an incorrectly fitted fuel quantity indicator and crew error. Following investigations and regulatory scrutiny stemming from the 2005 accident, Tuninter ceased operations. The airline's Air Operator Certificate was suspended by Tunisian authorities, effectively ending the carrier's activity.
