Air Afrique was a multinational African airline jointly owned by eleven francophone African states, including Ivory Coast, Senegal, Cameroon, and others. Founded in 1961 under the Yaoundé Treaty, it served as a symbol of pan-African cooperation and operated routes across Africa, Europe, and beyond from its primary base in Abidjan. The airline struggled throughout the 1990s with mounting debt, mismanagement, and increasing competition from European carriers. Despite various restructuring attempts and support from its member states, Air Afrique was unable to achieve financial stability. In February 2002, Air Afrique ceased all flight operations after failing to secure additional funding and restructuring agreements. It was officially liquidated shortly thereafter, marking the end of one of Africa's most prominent multinational aviation ventures.
