Pointe Vele Airport

Pointe Vele Airport is the sole airport serving Futuna Island, one of two main islands of the French overseas collectivity of Wallis and Futuna in the South Pacific Ocean. It is a small, basic facility handling limited scheduled regional air traffic, primarily connecting Futuna to the capital island of Wallis (ʻUvea). The airport operates under very limited capacity, with a short runway suited only to small turboprop aircraft. Air service is infrequent, reflecting the island's small population of a few thousand inhabitants and its remote location far from major air routes. Given the collectivity's status as a French territory, aviation oversight falls under French civil aviation authority. The airport plays a vital role as the only practical rapid link between Futuna and the outside world, as sea transport alternatives are slow and infrequent.
