Gilze Rijen Air Base is a Dutch military installation and is not a commercial passenger airport, so the dining landscape here is quite different from what you'd find at Schiphol or Eindhoven. Access to the base is strictly controlled, and any food facilities on site are reserved for military personnel and authorized staff. Civilian visitors passing through for official purposes should plan ahead, as walk-in dining options simply do not exist in the way travelers might expect.

That said, the surrounding town of Rijen and the broader Gilze municipality offer genuinely satisfying Dutch dining within a short drive of the base gates. If you find yourself with time before or after a visit to the base, the village center of Rijen is worth a stroll. A handful of family-run restaurants and bakeries do a wonderful job with local specialties like Brabantse worstenbroodjes, the region's beloved sausage rolls, which are distinctly spicier and more satisfying than versions you'd find elsewhere in the Netherlands. Keep your expectations realistic about the airside experience, but know that genuine Dutch food culture is right on the doorstep.
