Gary/Chicago International Airport (GYY) is a public airport located in Gary, Indiana, approximately 30 miles southeast of downtown Chicago. It serves as a reliever airport to the congested Chicago O'Hare and Midway airports, handling general aviation, cargo, and limited commercial operations. The airport covers roughly 3,000 acres and features two runways capable of handling large aircraft. It has historically struggled to attract and retain scheduled commercial airline service, with various carriers attempting and discontinuing routes over the years.
