Schaney's Lair Airport

Let's be straightforward with you: Schaney's Lair Airport (I62) is a small general aviation facility serving Brookville, Indiana, and like most airports of its size, it doesn't house a dedicated terminal food court or sit-down restaurant airside. What it does offer, though, is something arguably better — the kind of genuine small-town hospitality that points you toward real, locally loved food just minutes from the tarmac.

Brookville itself is the true dining destination here, and pilots and visitors who make the short drive into town are rewarded handsomely. The area around Franklin County is known for hearty Midwestern comfort food — think hand-breaded tenderloins, homestyle breakfast plates loaded with biscuits and gravy, and freshly baked pies that locals fiercely defend as the best in the state. Several family-owned diners and casual spots near the historic courthouse square cater warmly to aviators who've landed nearby and are looking for an honest, satisfying meal.

If you're planning a fuel stop or a fly-in visit, timing your arrival around lunchtime is a smart move. Ask anyone at the FBO or on the field for a current local recommendation — that informal intelligence network among general aviation pilots is genuinely reliable and often leads to hidden gems. Brookville's proximity to Brookville Lake also means seasonal fish fries and outdoor dining options pop up during warmer months, giving the whole experience a pleasantly regional, unhurried flavor that chain airport dining simply cannot replicate.
