Remote airstrip serving Kenya's secluded Funzi Island.
Location
Funzi Island, Kenya
Funzi Island Airport (ICAO: HKFZ) is a small, private airstrip located on Funzi Island, a tidal island situated in the Indian Ocean off the southern coast of Kenya, near the border with Tanzania. The airstrip primarily serves light charter aircraft providing access to the island's eco-lodges and private resorts, as it is otherwise only reachable by boat.
The facility is extremely basic, catering to small general aviation and charter flights rather than scheduled commercial services. It plays an important role in providing relatively convenient access to what is otherwise a very remote and isolated destination popular with eco-tourists and wildlife enthusiasts.
Getting to & from
Beyond the airstrip, access to Funzi Island and surrounding areas relies on boat transport, as the island is tidal and has no road connection to the mainland.
