Savannah Airstrip

Savannah Airstrip (IATA: KHX) is a small bush airstrip located near Kihihi in the Kanungu District of southwestern Uganda. It serves as a key access point for tourists heading to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, both renowned for mountain gorilla trekking. The airstrip supports light aircraft operations and charter flights, functioning as a vital link in Uganda's tourism infrastructure where road access can be lengthy and difficult. It is managed as part of Uganda's network of remote airstrips serviced primarily by safari and charter operators. Given its remote location and small scale, Savannah Airstrip has minimal facilities but plays a significant role in enabling wildlife tourism in one of Uganda's most ecologically important regions.
