Mfuwe International Airport

Mfuwe International Airport is the primary air gateway to the South Luangwa National Park in eastern Zambia, one of Africa's finest wildlife reserves. The airport serves both domestic and international charter and scheduled traffic, handling the influx of safari tourists visiting the region each year. Despite its international designation, Mfuwe remains a relatively small facility with limited infrastructure, reflecting the remote and rural nature of its surroundings. It plays a critical role in supporting the local tourism economy, connecting visitors to the bush camps and lodges scattered across the Luangwa Valley. The airport has undergone periodic improvements to accommodate growing tourist numbers, including runway upgrades to handle larger aircraft. It operates seasonally in terms of peak traffic, corresponding closely with Zambia's dry season safari period from around May to October.
