Naha Airport in Tabukan Utara is a small regional gateway, and its dining scene reflects that intimate, community-rooted character beautifully. Don't expect a sprawling food court — what you'll find instead is a handful of modest warung-style stalls tucked near the main terminal building, run by locals who take genuine pride in what they serve. Arrive with a bit of time to spare and you'll be rewarded with honest, home-style cooking that larger hub airports simply can't replicate.
The Sangihe Islands have a distinct culinary identity, and even at this compact airport you'll encounter glimpses of it. Look for ikan kuah asam, a bright and tangy fish broth built on local spices and tamarind that warms you from the inside out. Pisang goreng made from local banana varieties turns up at nearly every stall, golden and fragrant. Some vendors also offer lalampa, a Minahasan-influenced sticky rice roll stuffed with spiced fish and grilled over charcoal — a deeply satisfying snack before any flight.
A word of practical advice from someone who has passed through small eastern Indonesian airports more than once: eat before you clear security if you can, as the airside options are extremely limited and availability can be inconsistent depending on flight schedules. Grab a cup of local robusta coffee from a stall near the departure area — it's strong, slightly earthy, and brewed with an unhurried care that perfectly mirrors life on the Sangihe archipelago. It's a small pleasure, but the kind you'll remember long after landing.
