Naval Air Facility Atsugi (NAF Atsugi) is a United States Navy installation located in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, shared with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF). It sits on the Kanto Plain southwest of Tokyo, near the cities of Ayase and Yamato. The base has served as a critical hub for US naval aviation operations in the Pacific since the post-World War II era. The facility hosts Carrier Air Wing Five (CVW-5) and various US Navy and JMSDF squadrons, making it one of the most operationally significant military airfields in East Asia. It has historically been associated with US Seventh Fleet carrier aviation support. The base is not open to civilian commercial traffic. NAF Atsugi has been the subject of longstanding noise complaints from surrounding communities, contributing to ongoing discussions about its future use and possible relocation of some US aviation units to Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni.
