El Centro NAF Airport (Vraciu Field)

El Centro Naval Air Facility (NAF) Airport, officially designated Vraciu Field, is a military airfield operated by the United States Navy located near El Centro, California, in the Imperial Valley. It primarily supports naval aviation training operations, taking advantage of the region's clear skies and vast restricted airspace. The facility is named in honor of Lieutenant Commander Alexander Vraciu, one of the U.S. Navy's top World War II fighter aces, who scored 19 aerial victories. While the airport holds IATA code NJK and ICAO code KNJK, it does not serve scheduled commercial airline traffic and functions almost exclusively as a military installation. El Centro NAF is notably used for winter carrier air wing training detachments and has hosted various Navy and Marine Corps aviation units over the decades. Its desert location provides ideal year-round flying conditions with minimal weather disruptions.
