Portimão Airport is a small general aviation facility rather than a full commercial hub, so the dining scene here is understandably modest. You won't find a sprawling food court or a lineup of chain restaurants, but the terminal does offer a compact café where travellers can grab an espresso, a pastry, or a light sandwich before heading out. Think fresh croissants, toasted bifanas, and the kind of strong, short coffee that the Algarve does so well — simple, honest, and satisfying.

The real reward, though, is how close you are to Portimão town itself. If your schedule allows even a short detour before a departure, the waterfront along the Arade River is lined with tascas and casual restaurants serving grilled sardines, cataplana de marisco, and freshly fried carapau. The local specialty you absolutely shouldn't miss is sardinhas assadas — charcoal-grilled sardines that are almost a civic religion in this corner of Portugal, especially when paired with crusty bread and a cold Sagres beer.

For those with a little extra time on layover or waiting for a private charter, the staff at the terminal café are genuinely friendly and happy to point you toward nearby spots. A five-minute taxi ride puts you in front of some of the Algarve's most unpretentious, delicious seafood. Portimão may not have the airport dining infrastructure of Faro, but its proximity to real, local food is honestly a better deal — just plan ahead and eat before you fly.
