It serves as the home of the 92nd Air Refueling Wing, flying the KC-135 Stratotanker, making it one of the largest aerial refueling wings in Air Mobility Command. The base also hosts the 336th Training Group, which operates the Air Force Survival School, one of the most prominent survival training programs in the U.S. military. Fairchild plays a critical strategic role in supporting global mobility and refueling operations for the U.S. Air Force and allied forces. Although assigned the IATA code SKA, Fairchild is a military installation and does not serve commercial passengers. Civilian air travel in the Spokane region is handled by Spokane International Airport (GEG).
