Willow Run Airport (IATA: YIP, ICAO: KYIP) is a public-use airport located in Ypsilanti Township, Washtenaw County, Michigan, approximately 25 miles west of downtown Detroit. Though it carries a Detroit city association in its IATA code, it is geographically situated closer to Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti. The airport is best known for its extraordinary World War II history, as it was the site of Ford Motor Company's massive Willow Run Bomber Plant, which produced B-24 Liberator bombers at a remarkable rate. The facility became a symbol of American industrial capacity during the war effort. Today, Willow Run primarily serves general aviation, cargo, and charter operations. It is home to the Yankee Air Museum, which preserves the history of the bomber plant and houses vintage military aircraft. The airport does not currently operate scheduled commercial passenger service.
