Infrastructure is improving but remains limited. Expect variable levels of English-language service; properties catering to international visitors are a minority. This is a destination that rewards flexibility and some preparation around accommodation expectations.

Local taxis are available in Zagatala city and can be hired for day excursions into the foothills; negotiate and agree on price in advance. Properties closer to the reserve boundary are not reachable on foot from town. Having your own vehicle or a reliable pre-arranged transfer is strongly advisable for anyone staying outside the city centre. There is no airport currently serving Zagatala for commercial passenger flights.

Families travelling to Zagatala will find homestays and family-run guesthouses the most practical option — hosts are typically accustomed to multigenerational Azerbaijani family groups and can often accommodate larger parties. Expect communal dining and shared common areas rather than hotel-style room service. Mid-range hotels in Zagatala city offer more predictable amenities (private bathrooms, consistent hot water) that families with young children may prefer. The nature reserve and surrounding landscape are appropriate for older children and teenagers interested in wildlife and hiking; the terrain is not suitable for pushchairs or young toddlers on trails. Confirm bed configurations and cot availability directly with the property, as online listings may not accurately reflect room setups.

Zagatala is not structured as a long-stay destination in the conventional sense. There are no serviced apartments or aparthotels with formal monthly rates. However, homestay families and some guesthouse operators are open to negotiating extended stays of one to two weeks at reduced nightly rates, particularly in the low season. If planning a longer research, filming, or volunteer stay related to the nature reserve or local community, direct negotiation with a host family or a local NGO with accommodation contacts is the most viable route. Baku remains the nearest city with proper long-stay apartment infrastructure.
