Bicycles and mopeds are rentable in Hampi Bazaar and Virupapur Gadde for self-paced ruins exploration — a practical choice for the physically active. Hampi has no domestic airport; the nearest usable airport is Hubli (approximately 150 km) or Bengaluru Kempegowda (approximately 350 km). Neither is close — plan for overnight train or a long road transfer.

Families with children tend to do best based in Hospet (reliable electricity, AC, elevators in larger hotels, medical facilities nearby) or in the quieter Kamalapura area. Virupapur Gadde's rustic character and nighttime coracle closure make it less practical for families with young children or elderly members. Ask explicitly about mosquito nets or screens — the riverside setting means insects can be a nuisance, particularly after rains. Some mid-range properties near Hospet offer larger family rooms or connecting rooms; Hampi Bazaar guesthouses are predominantly small-room configurations.
