The character of accommodation in both destinations is functional and locally managed rather than internationally polished. Air conditioning is standard given the equatorial heat, but amenities beyond the basics — pools, restaurants, spas — are rare or absent except at a small number of properties. Neither destination is developed for conventional family tourism. Families traveling for work-related or research purposes should confirm directly with properties about room configuration options (interconnecting rooms are uncommon at this inventory size), cots, and any child-specific facilities. The Laura area of Majuro offers the best beach environment for families on the Marshall Islands side. Nauru's Anibare Bay area has some beach access. Families should plan meticulously for medical needs — both destinations have very limited medical facilities, and medical evacuation is the reality for serious health events. Travel insurance with medical evacuation coverage is essential.

Long-stay options are limited but more relevant than leisure tourism in both destinations, as many visitors are NGO workers, government contractors, researchers, or healthcare professionals on extended postings. Some properties in Majuro offer reduced monthly or weekly rates negotiated directly — inquire with the property. Nauru similarly has informal long-stay arrangements for contracted workers.
