Compared to the internationally publicised Masikryong Ski Resort near Wonsan — which opened in 2013 and has received some Western visitor accounts — Weihu Mountain is far less documented in English-language sources and is oriented almost entirely toward Chinese group tours. Because of the highly controlled nature of travel into and within North Korea, the accommodation 'ecosystem' here is effectively a single node: the state resort lodge. Domestic North Korean citizens who visit ski areas stay in separately designated facilities not open to foreigners. Weihu Mountain Resort is accessible primarily via the Changbai–Linjiang land border crossing from Jilin Province, China. Tour groups typically travel by coach from the Chinese side, crossing into Hyesan and then proceeding to the resort under DPRK guide escort. There is no public transport option; all movement within the DPRK portion of the journey is arranged and controlled by the operator and assigned guides. Once at the resort compound, all facilities are within walking distance of the accommodation. Guests do not have freedom of movement outside the designated tourist zone. The nearest airports with regular commercial service are on the Chinese side (Changchun Longjia, Yanji Chaoyangchuan); there is no practical air access to Weihu Mountain for foreign tourists.

Some Chinese tour operators do offer family-oriented packages to Weihu Mountain, particularly during Chinese school holidays around the Lunar New Year, when skiing is the primary activity. The resort is understood to have basic ski instruction and equipment rental. However, families should be aware that facilities for very young children (cribs, child menus, play areas) are unverified and cannot be requested independently in advance.
