Closer to the tank itself, in villages along the Murunkan corridor, very basic homestay-style lodging occasionally exists, but travelers should not arrive without prior confirmation. Many visitors to Giants Tank also overnight in Vavuniya (to the south) or Mannar town, treating the tank as a day excursion.

Given the area's recent emergence from conflict-era restrictions (the Northern Province saw decades of limited access), tourism infrastructure is still developing. Properties may not be consistently listed online, signage is minimal, and English fluency among hosts can be limited. There is no train station near the tank; the nearest rail access is Medawachchiya (south, on the Colombo–Vavuniya line), from which a vehicle hire is needed. Families should confirm room configurations in advance (double beds vs. separate beds are not always available). Church-affiliated guesthouses near Madhu, while simple, are generally safe and welcoming to families traveling for pilgrimage. Traveling with a car seat is advisable if bringing young children, as hired vehicles may not have them.
