The Musandam Peninsula is a detached exclave of Oman separated from the Omani mainland by the UAE, and its accommodation scene reflects its remote, dramatically rugged character. The fjord-like khors (inlets), steep Hajar mountain walls, and small fishing communities mean that the infrastructure for tourism remains deliberately modest. Khasab — the peninsula's largest town and administrative capital — anchors the majority of the accommodation, ranging from mid-range business-oriented hotels to a small number of resort properties that lean heavily into dhow cruise and snorkeling packages.

Beyond Khasab, options thin out considerably. Dibba Al Baya (the Omani portion of Dibba, distinct from Dibba in the UAE) has a handful of modest guesthouses catering to travelers crossing the border. Camping and liveaboard dhow experiences are arguably the most 'local' way to engage with the landscape — traditional wooden dhows converted for overnight stays allow guests to anchor in the khors, waking to near-total silence and sheer cliffs. These dhow liveaboards are offered by local tour operators primarily from Khasab and represent a genuinely distinctive accommodation format unique to this destination.

There is no hostel culture here in any conventional backpacker sense, and large international hotel chains are absent. The entire peninsula rewards travelers who are willing to accept a limited but authentic range of options, book well in advance during peak season, and treat accommodation as a base for outdoor and maritime experiences rather than an amenity-rich destination in itself.

Peak season (October–April): This is when temperatures are comfortable (roughly 20–30°C) and the sea is calm enough for dhow excursions. Demand is highest November through March. Book at least 6–8 weeks ahead for mid-range and resort properties during this window, and even earlier for Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha holidays, which can fill Khasab's limited supply very quickly.

UAE long weekends and National Day (December 2–3): Musandam is a popular short-break destination for UAE residents. Weekends around public holidays see sharp price increases and near-full occupancy in Khasab's limited hotel stock.

Summer (May–September): Extreme heat and high humidity make outdoor activity very challenging. This is low season; some smaller properties reduce rates significantly or close temporarily for maintenance. Verify property operating dates before booking.

Dhow liveaboards: These are booked through tour operators rather than standard hotel platforms; availability is separate from hotel room inventory. Book liveaboard packages as early as possible during peak season as fleets are small.

• Entry requirements differ by nationality: Musandam is Omani territory. Travelers from the UAE (or traveling via UAE) must cross an Omani border checkpoint at Tibat or Wajajah. Not all nationalities receive visa-on-arrival for Oman; verify your specific situation before booking accommodation.

• Air conditioning: Essential from May onwards; confirm all rooms have working AC before summer bookings.

Always verify that the property or operator has a traceable physical presence — a confirmed address in Khasab, verifiable reviews on Google Maps or TripAdvisor, and responsiveness before sending any payment. Be cautious of listings on generic rental platforms with no local reviews, stock photography that does not match the fjord environment, or requests to pay a full deposit via bank transfer before any contract is issued. For dhow operators specifically, ask for the vessel registration and the operator's Oman Tourism licence. Use credit card payment where possible for chargeback protection.

Musandam has no public bus network connecting accommodation to attractions. A rental 4WD vehicle is strongly recommended for anything beyond Khasab town itself, particularly for accessing Khor Najd, Jebel Harim plateau, and smaller villages. Most hotels in Khasab town are within walking distance of the harbour, the souq, and Khasab Fort, making a car less essential for guests whose itinerary is built around dhow tours departing from the marina. Taxis are available in Khasab but supply is limited and they are not metered — agree on fares in advance. Khasab Airport receives flights from Muscat (Oman Air operates this route; verify current schedule); the airport is a short drive from the main hotel cluster. There is no rail or formal bus connection. Kumzar village on the tip of the peninsula is accessible only by boat and has no tourist accommodation infrastructure.

Families are a significant portion of the Musandam visitor market, particularly UAE-resident families on short breaks. The larger hotel and resort properties in Khasab are best suited to families with children, offering pool access and organised dhow day trips that include snorkeling, dolphin watching, and swimming stops — activities generally appropriate for older children and teens. Dhow liveaboards with young children or toddlers require careful consideration: open water access, limited railings on traditional vessels, and basic sanitation mean they are not ideal for very young children. Family rooms or interconnecting rooms are available at the main hotels; request these explicitly at booking. Self-catering apartment options in Khasab are very limited but do occasionally appear on booking platforms — useful for families wanting kitchen access on longer stays.

Musandam is not set up for long-stay tourism. Monthly serviced apartment or aparthotel options do not exist in any established form. A small number of furnished apartments in Khasab are occasionally available for weekly rental (targeted at visiting workers and contractors rather than tourists); these surface sporadically on local WhatsApp groups and regional classifieds. Travelers needing a base for more than a week would typically find better long-stay infrastructure in Muscat (mainland Oman) or Fujairah (UAE) and day-trip or multi-night-trip into Musandam. If a longer visit is planned, discuss extended-stay rates directly with hotel management, as informal discounts for week-long bookings are sometimes available at mid-range properties in Khasab.
