Conviasa

Conviasa (Consorcio Venezolano de Industrias Aeronáuticas y Servicios Aéreos) is Venezuela's state-owned airline, established to provide domestic and international air services. Founded in the early 2000s under the administration of President Hugo Chávez, the airline was created as part of a broader effort to expand government control over key industries and improve air connectivity for Venezuelan citizens. The airline operates domestic routes across Venezuela as well as select international destinations, primarily within Latin America and the Caribbean. Conviasa has faced significant operational challenges over the years, including financial difficulties, aging fleet issues, and the impact of US sanctions imposed in 2020, which severely restricted its ability to acquire aircraft parts and conduct international transactions. Despite these challenges, Conviasa continues to operate as Venezuela's flagship carrier, though its network and fleet have contracted considerably in recent years due to the country's broader economic crisis.
