Empresa Ecuatoriana de Aviación, commonly known as Ecuatoriana, was Ecuador's national flag carrier airline, operating for several decades as the country's primary international and domestic air carrier. Founded in 1957, the airline connected Ecuador to destinations across the Americas and beyond, serving as a symbol of national aviation pride. The airline operated a variety of jet aircraft over the years, including Boeing 707s and 727s, as well as DC-10 widebody jets on long-haul routes. Ecuatoriana served major destinations in North America, South America, and Europe at its peak. The carrier faced serious financial difficulties in the 1990s amid increased competition, economic pressures, and operational challenges. It ceased operations in 1993 after declaring bankruptcy, ending its nearly four-decade run as Ecuador's flagship airline. Attempts to revive the brand have periodically been discussed but have not resulted in sustained operations.
