The Airbus A319 is a narrow-body, single-aisle commercial jet airliner and the smallest member of the original A320 family. It is essentially a shortened version of the A320, with the fuselage reduced by approximately 3.73 metres, allowing it to carry fewer passengers over similar or extended ranges. First entering service in 1996, the A319 quickly found favour with airlines seeking flexibility on thinner routes while maintaining commonality with the broader A320 family. Its range capability made it suitable for transatlantic operations, and several airlines configured it for long-haul, low-density routes. A re-engined variant, the A319neo (New Engine Option), entered service in 2018, featuring CFM LEAP-1A or Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engines for improved fuel efficiency. Despite strong competition from the Boeing 737 series, the A319 remains in widespread service globally.
