Iran Air

Iran Air, officially known as Homa (an acronym for Havapeymayi Melliye Iran), is the national flag carrier of Iran. Founded in 1944 and operating under its current name since 1962, the airline serves domestic and international routes across the Middle East, Europe, and Asia from its primary base at Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran. The airline has faced significant operational challenges due to decades of international sanctions, which severely limited its ability to purchase new aircraft or spare parts from Western manufacturers. Despite these constraints, Iran Air has maintained operations and has sought to modernize its fleet following the temporary easing of sanctions under the 2015 JCPOA agreement, placing orders with Airbus and ATR before subsequent reimposition of sanctions disrupted those agreements. Iran Air operates an aging and diverse fleet and remains state-owned, playing a central role in connecting Iran domestically and to key international destinations. The airline is a member of no major global airline alliance.
