Northwest Regional Airlines

Firefly is a Malaysian community airline and a wholly owned subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines Berhad. Established in 2007, the carrier was created to serve smaller, underserved communities and secondary cities across Malaysia, as well as select destinations in neighbouring countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, and Singapore. The airline initially operated turboprop aircraft to provide affordable and convenient regional connectivity, positioning itself as a complement to the full-service offerings of its parent, Malaysia Airlines. Firefly operates primarily out of Subang Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Kuala Lumpur, which serves as its main hub, offering a more relaxed, city-centre alternative to the larger Kuala Lumpur International Airport. Firefly has gone through various fleet and network changes over the years, at one point operating jet aircraft before reverting to turboprop operations. The airline continues to focus on short-haul regional routes, emphasising convenience and community connectivity as its core mission.
