The main terminal's airside food court on the departure level is the undisputed heart of the dining scene, where you'll find stalls dishing out char kway teow, Penang laksa, and nasi kandar — proper versions, not the watered-down airport imitations you might expect. Grab a tray, join the queue, and eat like a local right up until your gate calls.

Beyond the food court, a handful of sit-down cafes and casual restaurants line the departure hall. Old Town White Coffee is a reliable spot for a kopi fix and half-boiled eggs with toast soldiers slathered in kaya — the classic Penang breakfast that never gets old. There's also a branch of a local Malay restaurant serving dependable mee goreng mamak and roti canai with dhal, which is perfect if you want something warm and filling without the fuss of a full-service meal.

One honest caveat: Penang's airport is small, so peak morning and evening hours can see long queues at the food court counters. Arrive a little earlier than you think you need to, especially if you're determined to sit down with a bowl of asam laksa before departure. The good news is that prices remain refreshingly reasonable by airport standards — you'll rarely pay more than RM15 for a full, satisfying plate of something genuinely delicious.
