SilkAir was a regional airline based in Singapore, operating as a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore Airlines. It served destinations across Southeast Asia, South Asia, and China, complementing Singapore Airlines' long-haul network by providing connectivity to secondary and leisure markets.
Founded in 1975 as Tradewinds Charters, the airline rebranded as SilkAir in 1992 and grew to become a significant regional carrier out of Singapore Changi Airport. It was known for offering a higher level of service than typical low-cost carriers in the region.
In 2021, SilkAir was fully merged into Singapore Airlines, with all its routes absorbed into the main carrier's network. The merger allowed Singapore Airlines to operate a unified full-service brand across both long-haul and regional routes, effectively ending SilkAir's independent existence.
