The Airbus A330-300 is a wide-body, twin-engine jet airliner that serves as the longer-fuselage variant of the A330 family. Launched in the late 1980s and entering service in 1994, it was designed to replace older tri- and quad-engine widebodies on medium to long-haul routes with greater fuel efficiency. The A330-300 seats between 250 and 440 passengers depending on cabin configuration, and is powered by a choice of engines from General Electric, Pratt & Whitney, or Rolls-Royce. Its fly-by-wire flight control system and commonality with the A340 family reduce training and operational costs for airlines. Over the years the A330-300 has proven highly popular with carriers worldwide, particularly in Asia-Pacific and European markets. The Airbus A330 is a wide-body airliner developed and produced by Airbus. Airbus began developing larger A300 derivatives in the mid–1970s, giving rise to the A330 twinjet as well as the Airbus A340 quadjet, and launched both designs along with their first orders in June 1987. The A330-300, the first variant, took its maiden flight in November 1992 and entered service with Air Inter in January 1994. The A330-200, a shortened longer-range variant, followed in 1998 with Canada 3000 as the launch operator.
