The Boeing 737 is a short-to-medium-range narrow-body jet airliner developed by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. First flying in 1967, it has grown into a broad family spanning multiple generations — the Original (-100/-200), Classic (-300/-400/-500), Next Generation (-600/-700/-800/-900), and MAX series — making it the most produced commercial jetliner in aviation history. Each generation brought improved fuel efficiency, updated avionics, and extended range capabilities, allowing the 737 to serve routes from domestic short hops to transcontinental flights. The aircraft is operated by hundreds of airlines on every continent and has become the backbone of many carriers' fleets worldwide. The 737 MAX series, introduced in the 2010s, featured CFM LEAP-1B engines and significant fuel savings but was grounded globally from March 2019 to late 2020 following two fatal crashes linked to the MCAS flight control software. The MAX returned to service after extensive regulatory review and software modifications.
