LAN Airlines

LAN Airlines, founded in 1929 as Línea Aérea Nacional de Chile, is Chile's national airline and one of Latin America's oldest and most established carriers. Originally a state-owned enterprise, it was privatized in the 1990s and grew into a major regional and international airline headquartered in Santiago. In 2012, LAN Airlines merged with Brazil's TAM Airlines to form LATAM Airlines Group, one of the largest airline groups in the world by passenger volume. The combined entity rebranded under the LATAM name, though LAN's legacy routes and operational history remain foundational to the group. Prior to the merger, LAN operated an extensive network across South America, North America, Europe, and Oceania, and was a member of the oneworld alliance. Its cargo subsidiary, LAN Cargo, was also a significant player in international air freight.
