Il Caravaggio International Airport, known by its IATA code BGY, is located in Orio al Serio, a small municipality in the Province of Bergamo, Lombardy, Italy. Despite being branded as a Bergamo airport, it serves as a major secondary airport for the wider Milan metropolitan area and ranks among Italy's busiest airports by passenger volume. The airport is named after the celebrated Baroque painter Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, who was born in the nearby town of Caravaggio. It has grown substantially since the early 2000s, driven largely by the expansion of low-cost carriers, particularly Ryanair, which operates one of its largest European bases here.
