Pyongyang Sunan International Airport is the main international and domestic airport serving Pyongyang, the capital of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. It is located approximately 24 kilometers north of the city center and handles the limited international air traffic permitted by the North Korean government. The airport underwent significant renovation and expansion completed around 2015, when a new modern terminal was inaugurated, featuring contemporary architecture and improved passenger facilities. Despite its upgraded appearance, the airport sees very low passenger traffic due to North Korea's extreme isolation and restrictions on international travel. Flights are primarily operated by Air Koryo, the state-owned national carrier, with limited international routes connecting to Beijing, Shanghai, and occasionally other Chinese cities, as well as some seasonal and charter services.
