Sriwijaya Air

Sriwijaya Air is an Indonesian low-cost carrier founded in 2003, named after the historic Sriwijaya Empire that once dominated maritime Southeast Asia. The airline grew rapidly to become one of Indonesia's major domestic carriers, operating routes across the Indonesian archipelago as well as select international destinations. The airline entered a cooperation agreement with Garuda Indonesia in 2019, integrating operations and management under Garuda's umbrella while retaining its own brand identity. This partnership was intended to streamline costs and improve operational efficiency for both carriers. Sriwijaya Air has faced significant operational and financial challenges over the years, including a tragic accident in January 2021 when Flight SJ-182 crashed into the Java Sea shortly after takeoff from Jakarta, killing all 62 people on board. The incident intensified scrutiny of the airline's safety and financial condition.
