Spirit Airlines

Spirit Airlines is an American ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) headquartered in Miramar, Florida. Founded in 1983 and transitioning to an all-jet fleet by the early 2000s, Spirit built its business model around offering extremely low base fares while charging separately for amenities such as carry-on bags, seat selection, and snacks. The airline operates an all-Airbus narrowbody fleet and serves destinations across the United States, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Spirit has been known for its distinctive yellow aircraft livery and its 'Bare Fare' pricing philosophy, which strips the ticket price down to the bare minimum. In November 2024, Spirit Airlines filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection following years of financial difficulties, increased competition, and the collapse of a proposed merger with Frontier Airlines. The airline continued operating flights during the bankruptcy proceedings while restructuring its operations.
