Location
Adak, United States
Adak Airport (ADK/PADK) is a public-use airport located on Adak Island in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska, United States. It sits at an elevation of approximately 18 feet above sea level and serves as the primary air link for the small community of Adak, one of the most remote inhabited places in the United States. The airport was originally developed as a major U.S. Navy air facility during and after World War II, when Adak served as a critical strategic base in the North Pacific. After the Navy closed Naval Air Facility Adak in 1997, the airport was transferred to civilian control and now handles limited commercial and cargo operations. Given the island's small and fluctuating population—primarily workers in the commercial fishing industry—passenger traffic is very low. The facility retains long runways capable of accommodating larger aircraft, a legacy of its military origins.
Terminals
The airport has a basic, small terminal facility reflecting the limited commercial passenger volume of the remote island community.
Getting to & from
Ground transport on Adak Island is limited to personal vehicles and local arrangements, as the community is extremely small with no formal public transit system.
Airlines here
PenAir (Peninsula Airways) has historically provided scheduled service connecting Adak to Anchorage.
