It is located in the municipality of Laguindingan in Misamis Oriental, approximately 46 kilometers west of Cagayan de Oro City. The airport replaced the older Cagayan de Oro Airport (Lumbia Airport) and was built to handle growing passenger demand with a modern facility capable of accommodating larger aircraft and higher traffic volumes. It is operated by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP). Laguindingan serves as an important hub for Mindanao, connecting the region to Manila, Cebu, and other domestic destinations, as well as select international routes. Its opening significantly improved aviation infrastructure in Northern Mindanao.
