The Boeing 737-700 is a member of the Next Generation (NG) 737 family, developed as a replacement for the earlier 737-300 Classic. Launched in 1993 and entering service in 1998, it offers improved aerodynamics, fuel efficiency, and avionics compared to its predecessors. The -700 seats approximately 128–149 passengers in a typical two-class configuration and is optimized for short to medium-haul routes. Its winglets, offered as an option, further enhance fuel economy and range. The aircraft has been popular with low-cost carriers and regional operators alike. Southwest Airlines is by far the largest operator, having shaped much of the variant's commercial success. The 737-700 remains in service worldwide, though production has largely shifted to the 737 MAX 7.
