Aerospatiale/Alenia ATR 42-300

The ATR 42-300 is a twin-turboprop regional airliner developed jointly by Aérospatiale of France and Aeritalia (later Alenia) of Italy through their ATR consortium. It was designed to serve short-haul regional routes economically, offering airlines a fuel-efficient alternative to jets on lower-density sectors. The -300 variant is the original and most common early production version of the ATR 42 family, featuring Pratt & Whitney Canada PW120 engines and a high-mounted wing with a conventional T-tail configuration. It entered service in the mid-1980s and quickly became popular with regional and commuter carriers worldwide. The ATR 42 family spawned several variants, including the stretched ATR 72, and the aircraft remains a benchmark in regional turboprop aviation. While newer variants have since been introduced, many ATR 42-300s continue to operate with regional carriers globally.
