The Saab 340 is a twin-turboprop regional airliner developed jointly by Saab of Sweden and Fairchild of the United States, with Fairchild withdrawing from the program in 1985. The SF340A entered service in 1984, followed by the improved SF340B in 1989, which featured more powerful engines, increased range, and enhanced performance in hot-and-high conditions.
Designed for short-haul regional routes, the Saab 340 seats up to 37 passengers in a pressurized cabin and has proven popular with regional carriers worldwide. Its reliability, operating economics, and ability to serve smaller airports made it a staple of regional aviation networks.
Although production ended in 1999 after 459 aircraft were built, the type remains in widespread service globally, particularly in North America, Scandinavia, and the Asia-Pacific region.
