US Airways

US Airways was a major American airline that operated for decades as one of the United States' largest carriers. Originally founded as All American Aviation in 1939, the airline underwent several name changes, becoming Allegheny Airlines, then USAir, and finally US Airways in 1997. At its peak, it served hundreds of destinations across the United States, Europe, the Caribbean, and Latin America. The airline faced significant financial difficulties in the early 2000s, filing for bankruptcy twice following the September 11 attacks and rising fuel costs. It emerged from its second bankruptcy in 2005 after a merger with America West Airlines, with the combined entity operating under the US Airways brand. US Airways joined the Star Alliance in 2004 but later switched to the oneworld alliance in 2014 following its merger with American Airlines, which was announced in 2013. The US Airways brand was officially retired on October 17, 2015, when operations were fully integrated into American Airlines.
