Transaero Airlines

Transaero Airlines was a major Russian private carrier founded in 1990, becoming the first non-state airline to operate in post-Soviet Russia. It grew to become the country's second-largest airline by passenger volume, operating an extensive network of domestic and international routes, particularly to leisure destinations. The airline was known for operating one of the largest fleets of wide-body Boeing aircraft in the region, including the Boeing 747, 767, and 777, serving destinations across Europe, Asia, North America, and popular resort areas. It was a significant player in Russia's charter and package-holiday market as well as scheduled services. Transaero ceased operations in October 2015 following severe financial difficulties, largely attributed to the economic downturn in Russia, a weakened ruble, falling passenger demand, and heavy debt. Its operating certificate was revoked by Russian aviation authorities, marking the largest airline collapse in Russian history at the time.
