The Airbus A330-200 is a stretched-fuselage, long-range derivative of the A330-300, offering extended range capability in a slightly shorter airframe. It entered service in 1998 and was developed to compete directly with the Boeing 767-300ER on transatlantic and transpacific routes. The aircraft features a twin-engine widebody configuration and is available with engines from three manufacturers: General Electric CF6-80E, Pratt & Whitney PW4000, or Rolls-Royce Trent 700. Its fly-by-wire flight controls and common type rating with other Airbus widebodies reduce operator training costs. The A330-200 has proven popular with airlines operating thinner long-haul routes where the capacity of a four-engine aircraft would be excessive. It has also served extensively as a freighter variant and has been adapted for military tanker and transport roles as the A330 MRTT.

The Airbus A330 is a wide-body airliner developed and produced by Airbus. Airbus began developing larger A300 derivatives in the mid–1970s, giving rise to the A330 twinjet as well as the Airbus A340 quadjet, and launched both designs along with their first orders in June 1987. The A330-300, the first variant, took its maiden flight in November 1992 and entered service with Air Inter in January 1994. The A330-200, a shortened longer-range variant, followed in 1998 with Canada 3000 as the launch operator.
