Dining at Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport has improved considerably in recent years, and travelers with a layover or an early departure will find more than just a grab-and-go snack bar. The international terminal — the one you'll almost certainly be passing through — hosts a handful of sit-down spots and cafes clustered near the departure gates. Don't expect a sprawling food hall, but do expect warm service and, if you're lucky with timing, genuinely good food.
The standout experience for any food-curious traveler is tracking down dishes rooted in Angolan cooking, even in this airport setting. Look for muamba de galinha — a rich, palm-oil-based chicken stew fragrant with okra and garlic — which occasionally appears on menus at the more locally oriented restaurants airside. Calulu, a slow-cooked fish dish with dried ingredients and greens, is another regional gem worth ordering if it's available. Pair either with funge, the smooth cassava porridge that anchors Angolan cooking, and you'll leave feeling like you actually ate well before your flight.
For something lighter or a quick caffeine fix, the airport's cafe counters serve strong, aromatic Angolan coffee — a genuine point of national pride — alongside pastries and fresh fruit. Imported beers and local Cuca lager are available at the bar areas for those with an evening departure and time to spare. Prices run higher than the city, as you'd expect, but the quality is reasonable and the staff generally attentive. If you have a long wait, settle in, order slowly, and soak in the particular energy of Luanda's gateway to the world.
