Jose Maria Córdova International Airport

José María Córdova International Airport (MDE/SKRG) serves Medellín, the capital of Antioquia department in northwestern Colombia. It is the country's second-busiest airport by passenger traffic, handling tens of millions of travelers annually and serving as a key hub for both domestic and international flights. The airport is located in the municipality of Rionegro, approximately 35 kilometers east of central Medellín, at an elevation of roughly 2,095 meters (6,873 feet) above sea level in the Andes mountains. This high-altitude setting influences aircraft performance and weather conditions throughout the year. Named after General José María Córdova, a hero of Colombian independence, the airport has undergone significant modernization and expansion in recent decades to accommodate growing passenger demand and position Medellín as a regional aviation hub.
