De Havilland Canada DHC-8-400 Dash 8Q

The De Havilland Canada DHC-8-400, commonly known as the Dash 8 Q400 or Q-Series, is the largest and most advanced variant of the Dash 8 family. Introduced in the late 1990s, it seats up to 90 passengers and features a stretched fuselage compared to earlier Dash 8 variants. The 'Q' designation refers to its Quiet Series active noise and vibration suppression (NVS) system, which significantly reduces cabin noise levels typical of turboprop aircraft. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW150A turboprop engines driving six-bladed propellers, the Q400 offers performance competitive with regional jets while retaining the fuel efficiency advantages of turboprop propulsion. Its cruise speed of around 667 km/h is notably fast for a turboprop, allowing it to compete effectively on short- to medium-haul routes. Originally developed by Bombardier Aerospace, the program was sold to Longview Aviation Capital (Viking Air's parent company) in 2019, and the aircraft is now marketed under the De Havilland Canada brand. The type remains in production and in widespread global service with regional and short-haul carriers.
